  3. If you are a Squeeze fan, this is absolutely a must. If you don't know Squeeze, this is a fine place to start. Pricey, but this comes with two discs - the first is the original Argy Bargy album with a few extra contemporaneous cuts added at the end. The other is a live disc, pieced together from several concerts just after the studio album released/5(64).

  5. Difford and Tilbrook wrote beautifully British songs, with the sort of rye viewpoint that made the Kinks so effective. Among the album's lesser-known charms is "Vicky Verky" - one of Difford and Tilbrook's most heartbreaking songs of teenage relationships and redemption, as well as 5/5(2).

If any one album were responsible for sowing the seeds of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook's reputation as the new Lennon and McCartney, it's Argybargy, Squeeze's third album and undisputed breakthrough. Squeeze made a great leap forward between their awkward debut and its great sequel, Cool for Cats, but that distance is small compared to the gap between Cool for Cats and Argybargy.
