  4. George Shearing is probably not all that contemporary but his music is timeless. I like this album, his lilting piano style is just perfect as a background to summer rain and I will play it, patio doors flung wide open, cool rain falling down, my dog flopped on the rug and my cat snoozing in a chair/5(38).

  5. The only Shearing products I don't care to own are several Capitol LP's from the late '50's and 60's in which he played with larger orchestras. Most of those had a beautiful woman on the cover, but "easy listening background music" inside. Look instead for the jazzier albums with small groups, often with George himself on the cover/5(11).
